The Week’s Release: 1/23-1/29
This week was host to multiple album releases, here’s a recap of a few, including album releases from: Bhi Bhiman, Cloud Nothings, First Aid Kit, Lazerbeak and Porcelain Raft as well as an EP from Evan Voytas. Enjoy!
BHIMAN By Bhi Bhiman
Bhi Bhiman is a second generation Sri Lankan American whose sound reminds one of Dylan and Guthrie. A former St. Louis native, Bhiman currently calls San Fransisco, CA home. Raised in the 90’s, he grew up listening to the likes of Nirvana, however, is was Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan who first ignited the spark in him to make his own music. Bhiman came out with his debut CD Cookbook back in 2007 and hasn’t released a new album until the past week.
Throughout the album Bhi frequently and effortlessly changes tempo, playing with contrasting speeds by layering them over one another. This, added with twangy guitar, soft piano chords and off beat handclaps perfectly framing the tenor’s powerful voice equate to a beautiful folk album. I give it an 8/10.
