spread joy, spread music

The Week’s Release: 2/27-3/4

Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun by The Wooden Sky

Another musical gem from Canada, The Wooden Sky is based in Toronto, Ontario and has been releasing indie rock tracks since 2003. Growing from a school project by Gavin Gardiner, the group is currently comprised of Gardnier, Andrew Wyatt, Simon Walke, Andrew Kekewich and Edwin Huizinga.

If Every Child A Daughter, Every Moon a Sun doesn’t make you feel, you may be a robot. Drenched in emotions, the album is filled with songs that evoke emotions through both the lyrics as well as the instrumentation. Gardiner’s calming vocals fit like a puzzle piece amongst acoustic guitar, gentle violin and muted trumpet.

What the Critics Say:

“While these new textures paint the album nicely, Gavin Gardiner’s soothing voice and powerful lyricism rightly remain the focal point, with his vocals carrying the album through its weaker moments and his lyrics bringing its best moments to even greater heights.” –  The Swollen Fox

“There isn’t one track on the entire album I’d consider ‘filler’. I know it’s early in the year, but this would at least be in my top three albums of 2012 so far. An incredible release“. – New Music Michael (8.2/10)
